At a glance

Breed overview

Jack Russells are fearless, funny and startlingly intelligent. They were bred to work, and centuries of that leaves a dog that needs a job, a walk and something to think about every single day. In an active family they are outstanding: quick to learn, always ready, deeply loyal. In a quiet household with nobody home, that same drive turns into digging, barking and mischief. It is the one breed we raise where we would rather talk you out of it than see a mismatch. Our Jack Russell Terrier puppies receive daily care and family involvement in Ronks, Pennsylvania.

Personality

Temperament

The temperament is the biggest reason this breed is so loved.

Real energy

This is the most active breed we raise. A Jack Russell wants a proper walk and a game every day, and it will let you know if it does not get one.

Very clever

They learn fast — including things you did not intend to teach them. Give that brain a job and it becomes the best thing about the breed.

Bold and fearless

A Jack Russell does not know it is small. Confidence is the breed's signature and the reason a secure yard and a reliable leash matter.

Devoted to their people

Under all the drive is a very affectionate dog that wants to be part of everything the family does.

Grooming & care

Keeping a Jack Russell Terrier healthy

Brushing is quick
A weekly brush suits a smooth coat; a broken or rough coat benefits from a little more attention to keep it tidy. Either way it is a short job.
Bathe rarely
Every month or two is plenty. The coat is weather-resistant and sheds dirt well on its own, and over-bathing strips what protects it.
They do shed
Short white hairs turn up on dark clothes and furniture. It is not heavy shedding, but it is steady all year.
Nails, ears & teeth
Regular nail trims, a check of the ears after outdoor play, and dental care started young.
Training

Trainability

Learns almost anything
Jack Russells excel at training, tricks and dog sports. Keep sessions short and varied — repetition bores them and a bored terrier invents its own games.
Recall and a secure yard
This is a breed that follows its nose and instincts. Practise recall from the first week and never rely on an open yard or an unfenced field.
Give the drive a job
Fetch, scent games, puzzle feeders, agility — anything that uses the mind. A Jack Russell with a job is a well-behaved dog; one without finds a job you did not choose.
Health considerations

Why responsible breeding matters

Every breed carries its own strengths and its own things to watch. The Jack Russell is one of the hardiest small breeds and often lives well into its teens, and there are still a few things worth asking about.

We would rather you ask us hard questions now than wonder later. These are the questions worth asking any Jack Russell breeder, including us.

What health testing do you do on the parents, and can I see it?
Both of our parent dogs complete health screening before any litter is planned. Testing means little if nobody can look at it, so ask any breeder to show you the paperwork rather than describe it.
What about eyes and hearing?
Ask what eye conditions the line has been screened for, and whether hearing has been checked — both are worth knowing in this breed.
How are the joints?
This is an athletic dog that jumps far more than its size suggests. Ask about knees and hips, and keep a young puppy off repeated hard landings while it is still growing.
What happens if something goes wrong?
Every puppy we place comes with a 30-day Peace of Mind Health Guarantee and a 2-year genetic health guarantee based on parent testing, plus a phone number that still works in a year.
Modern lifestyles

A breed that fits the way we live now

Space matters less than activity

A Jack Russell can live in a smaller home if it gets out properly every day. What it cannot do is spend a quiet day indoors with nothing happening.

Daily exercise is not optional

A real walk plus active play, every day, plus something for the mind. This is the honest cost of the breed and the thing to be sure about before choosing one.

Secure fencing

They dig, they climb and they follow a scent without looking back. A properly secure yard saves a great deal of worry.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about Jack Russell Terriers

They can be excellent family dogs in an active household, particularly with older children who enjoy playing and training with a dog. They are less suited to a very quiet home or one where nobody is available to exercise them daily. We talk this through honestly with every family during the reservation process.
